Camenae take their name from the legendary Roman nymphs who, like the Greek Muses, were goddesses who inspired excellence in those who practiced the arts and sciences.We too dare to inspire you with a fresh approach to classical music!
The Camenae Foundation ignites enthusiasm among music lovers everywhere. Based in The Netherlands, we promote and organize cultural activities aimed at revitalizing people’s perception of classical music, bridging cultures, media, genres, and generations.
Camenae present musical events to fire your imagination, featuring Telesto and Camenae Collective ensembles, bringing you an innovative mix of the traditional and the contemporary, classical and folk music, live kinetic images, and impassioned performance.

..organized by Stichting Camenae, 13, 14 and 15 October 2006 in the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam in honour of the 75th birthday of the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina has been a great event!

Program
The programme of the festival included chamber music of Gubaidulina and of her congenials Anton Webern, Dmitri Shostakovitsj and Alfred Schnittke.
On the programme there were three Dutch premières, Gubaidulina’s Transformation (2004) for trombone solo, saxofoonquartet, cello, doublebass and tam-tam. Also Schnittke’s Polyphonic Tango was never performed in the Netherlands.
The 3rd première was a new composition of Jan van de Putte. This piece has been written specially for the Festival and has been dedicated to Sofia Gubaidulina, a Dutch present in her honour.
